AquiTec and East of England Co-Operative Society chalk up a double win at The 2007 Effective IT Awards.
July 11th, 2007 – Global supply chain software provider AquiTec has scooped a pair of prestigious trophies at the Effective IT Awards for its voice-based warehouse project with the East of England Co-operative Society. The project won the ‘Most Effective Use of IT in Retail’ and the overall ‘Most Innovative Use of IT’ categories at the awards. To win the latter accolade, the East of England Co-operative Society project fought off stiff competition from 41 projects across 14 awards categories, featuring some of the UK’s biggest blue-chip companies.
The judges, a star-studded list of senior IT executives, including British Airways CIO Paul Coby and Joe Little, from BP’s Chief Technology Office, recognised the East of England Co-operative Society project for its forward-thinking approach to voice-based warehouse management. All order-fulfillment processes at the East of England Co-Operative Society’s 140,000 square foot distribution centre in Ipswich are configured for voice, creating a virtually paper-free operation environment. The new system is expected to increase productivity by at least 20 per cent as well as improving accuracy, inventory management and order fulfillment. A full ROI is expected within 18 months.
Steve Bentley, IT Manager, East of England Co-operative Society Distribution Centre commented: “Thanks to the commitment of the project team, and AquiTec’s innovative and robust software, we have succeeded in driving forward the role of the warehouse within the supply chain, proving that it can be one of the strongest links in a company’s logistics set up.”
Bruce Putman, General Manager of AquiTec comments: “This pair of awards confirms AquiTec’s achievement in harnessing the very latest technologies to deliver measurable benefits to its customers. We are delighted that the East of England Co-Operative Society has been recognised for its forward-thinking approach to its warehouse operations.”
AquiTec’s double win at the Effective IT Awards is the latest in a series of award successes for the supply chain software provider. In November 2006 AquiTec and Focus DIY won first prize in the Supply Chain Solution of the Year category in the inaugural Retail Systems awards and in December the project was named runner up in the Supply Chain Solution category of the prestigious British Computer Society Information Management Awards, the premier European recognition of excellence and innovation in the management of business information.
